    Bretton Woods Overview
Bretton Woods: West Mountain | Mt. Rosebrook | Mt. Stickney

The West Mountain area opened in late 1999, in part to combat the "Medicare Mountain" image by offering some more advanced terrain.

Initially served by a 1999 Garaventa CTEC fixed grip quad chairlift (3,752 feet long over 830 vertical feet), the slow line speed as compared to the adjacent high speed detachable chairlifts wasn't warmly received. Thus, a 2002 Doppelmayr/CTEC high speed detachable quad (3,802 feet long over 826 vertical feet) was later installed, running nearly 250% faster. In addition, the Zephyr Express Quad was added in 2000, as to help ease access to the new peak.

While trails had been previously added on the slopes of Mt. Rosebrook, the summit was not lift served until 2003-2004. At that point, Bretton Woods' most challenging terrain opened (including a trail named after Olympian Bode Miller) when a new Doppelmayr/CTEC high speed detachable quad was installed. One of the shortest detachable quads in the country (2,455 feet long), it climbed 556 vertical feet.

While most of the massive expansion plans announced in the late 1990s have been built, Mt. Stickney remains undeveloped.

Shortly after West Mountain was opened, Mt. Stickney was announced as a 2001 expansion, offering about a dozen new trails and at least one new lift. After a few of the trails were opened in Rosebrook Canyon, the Mt. Stickney proposed trails were removed from the trail map, as well as the expected opening date. Shortly thereafter, the Mt. Rosebrook summit area was built instead.

The Mt. Stickney proposed trails have reappeared on recent trail maps, however it is unknown if or when the area will open as a lift-trail complex.

In 2010-2011, 30 acres of gladed terrain was opened on Mt. Stickney.
