Cranmore: Upper Mountain | Lower Mountain Reconstruction | Black Cap

| Upper Mountain Area - 1939 - Open |

The 1962-63 Cranmore map, prior to the North Chair being installed |
After making a splash with the unique Skimobile on the lower mountain, the decision was made to access the entire mountain with the lift. Since it was not possible to simply extend the lift, a second segment would be built.
Opening for the 1939-1940 season, the new upper mountain two person lift moved the mountain into exclusive 1,000 vertical foot status, allowing for access to new upper mountain trails and open slopes in the ledges area.
In 1963, the North Chair, a 4,560' long by 1,070' vertical Mueller double, was installed to ease congestion on the busy Skimobile lift, as well as to make for easier access to the East Bowl.
The Skimobile would operate for nearly half a century, prior to being removed at the end of the 1980s. The North Chair would be truncated in 1995 when the Skimobile Express Quad was installed, and finally removed in 2006.

The South double chair (2007) |
Upon being sold to the operators of Jiminy Peak, a multi-million dollar improvement was announced, to be funded by CNL Lifestyle Properties, Inc.
A new 2,622 foot long Doppelmayr eco-Quad chairlift was announced for the South Slope area, replacing the South double chairlift. Subsequently, the South double chairlift was to be moved to near the former North Chair, becoming a 1,050 foot long novice lift.
Building improvements were also announced, as well as the installation of a mountain coaster and the reworking of the tubing facility.
By the end of October 2010, the new quad chairlift had its towers standing and its haul rope spliced.

| Black Cap Mountain Area - Proposed |

Cranmore's East Bowl as seen from Black Cap (2008) |
In 1951, Cranmore obtained an easement on 500 acres of land on Black Cap, a ledgy peak located to the east of the ski area. If the ski area were expanded to the top of Black Cap, Cranmore would see an increase of 700 vertical feet to 1,800 feet, making it the second highest in the Mount Washington Valley.
Cranmore also owns 35 acres of land near Artist Brook adjacent the East Bowl, which has been cited as a possible real estate development.
The Black Cap Mountain Area expansion was cited in some corporate filings by the previous owner, Booth Creek, however it has yet to become a near-term plan.
