After operating for nearly a decade on the side of Jay Peak, the decision was made to expand the ski area to the summit.

For the 1965-66 season, the Skyline double chairlift was installed on the upper mountain, opening the summit area to lift serviced skiing and increasing Jay Peak's advertised vertical drop. The chairlift would likely be replaced after two seasons with a Poma lift.

A $3 million expansion would be seen for the 1966-67 season. The summit of Jay Peak would be blasted, while the bottom would see a new, lower base area. Connecting the two would be a 2,050 vertical foot, 60 passenger Von Roll tramway. New terrain increased the trail count to 41. In addition to opening high elevation, expert terrain, the new development was also seen as the first step in making Jay Peak a year round resort.

Also for 1966-67, the Metro T-Bar was installed and a night club opened at the base of the tramway.

The tramway would be rebuilt for the 2000-2001 season.

    West Bowl - Proposed

Though it has been decades since plans to expand to the West Bowl first emerged, the proposal is still considered alive.

While the details of the proposal have evolved throughout the years, a somewhat separate area remains in the plans, featuring numerous glades and tree island trails served by perhaps three lifts (ranging from quads to high speed six packs). In addition to these lifts serving the new terrain, a high speed six pack would likely run from the bottom of the complex up to the existing main mountain.

It is unknown when the West Bowl project will begin. Jay Peak is expected to continue to upgrade existing facilities and infrastructure prior to embarking on the new development.
